Boiler Servicing

Boilers work hard in our households. They heat our water and our radiators every day and we never really stop to think about the wear and tear they take on as part of the process. As a Gas Safe registered engineer I am qualified to complete boiler servicing safely and competently which means that I will carry out a number of checks and inspections. The majority of the inspection relates to checking for any leaks, while the rest will be spent ensuring your boiler is working efficiently. The service should take between 45 minutes and an hour but no two boilers are identical, so depending on the current state of the boiler, servicing and inspection can take longer. My normal price for a boiler service is £70.00

Maintaining Standards

Initially I’ll check that the boiler is meeting all current electrical, gas safety and building standards, as well as water by-laws. Laws change from year to year and sometimes adjustments need to be made to your boiler to keep up with these. I am familiar with all major brand boilers and will discuss these with you if they’re required.

Pre-Service Check

This is a general check of the boiler including the outer casing and the internal parts. I will check to ensure the boiler is clean and undamaged before checking each component, including the main burner, heat exchanger and  main injector. Then I will check all seals and all joins on pipe work, then the fan and the electrics for signs of overheating. I will inspect the flue terminal ensuring it is unobstructed and that the internal flue components are sealed correctly.

Flue Gas Analysis

Once these main checks are done, I will check that the gas valve is adjusted correctly to ensure the burner works efficiently. This is done by checking the flue combustion gases using a flue gas analyzer. Depending on the results, I may have to dismantle the heat exchanger.

 A Full Report

Following a thorough cleaning of your boiler, I will provide you with a detailed service report. This report will itemize each aspect of the service and will show where the boiler has passed or failed. If there is scope for repairs, I will provide you with a quote at that time. Generally speaking, the best time to have your boiler serviced is in the summer months before the onset of winter.
