Boilers

If you need a new boiler, as an independent and local boiler specialist, I can help you choose the right boiler for you and install it quickly, simply and very cost effectively. In fact, I recently beat a British Gas quotation for a replacement condensing boiler by over £1,000! Boilers are at the heart of your central heating system so it’s important to keep your boiler in as healthy a condition as possible to ensure the smooth running of your central heating. Boilers, whether they run on fuel supplies such as gas, electricity or oil, generally come in three types, these are:

Combi Boilers

Combination boilers, or combi boilers, are the most popular kind of boiler in the UK and provide you with heat and hot water without tanks or cylinders.

Advantages of Combi Boilers

  • Heat and hot water whenever you need it.
  • No need for a tank in the loft.
  • They don’t require a lot of space.

Disadvantages of Combi Boilers

  • The water pressure can be reduced if you use hot water from more than one tap at the same time.
  • Suitable for most types of home, but best where lots of people won’t need lots of hot water at the same time.

Regular or Conventional boilers

Conventional boilers – also known as open vent or regular boilers – have a cylinder and a tank.

Advantages of Conventional boilers

  • You can get hot water from a number of taps at the same time.

Disadvantages of Conventional Boilers

  • Hot water can run out and you need to wait for the water in the tank to heat.
  • Need to have space for a cylinder and a tank.
Suitable for homes which have a demand for hot water in more than one place at the same time.

System boilers

System boilers, or sealed system boilers, come with a water cylinder (which is usually housed in an airing cupboard) but no water tank.

Advantages of System Boilers

  • No need for a tank in your loft.
  • Hot water available from multiple taps at the same time.

Disadvantages of System Boilers

  • Don’t get instant hot water.
  • Hot water can run out which means you’ll have to wait for it to reheat.
Suitable for homes where people don’t require instantaneous hot water.

Scale Attack

ScaleAttackLogoThrough my work I’ve become interested in boiler efficiency and how to gain  optimum heat from your heating systems, and a few years ago I invented “Scale Attack”, which is a water conditioning device that prevents lime scale build-up in home appliances and helps save you money on your bills. I am happy to include a Scale Attack magnet worth £20 with every combination boiler service.
